Residents handed stake in new Edinburgh pub following Easter Road launch

Arthur's Pub, located on Easter Road, officially opens on Friday, November 6 at 4pm.

Two local residents have been handed a stake in a new Edinburgh pub which opened its doors on Easter Road on Friday.

Arthur’s Pub officially welcomed its first customers at 4pm following a takeover and refurbishment by independent hospitality firm Auld Boy Pub Group.

Located at 69 Easter Road, the venue replaces Middletons Bar, which was traditionally popular with away supporters visiting the nearby Hibernian football ground.

The group, which already operates Douglas’s in Portobello and Seamus’s in Tollcross, has described it’s latest addition as “an old man’s pub for all ages”.

While the opening coincides with the rugby season, the pub hopes to attract more than just sports fans, with ambitions to become a popular spot for stout lovers, whisky drinkers and football fans.

Arthur’s will offer six different stouts on tap, alongside a wine and crisps pairing menu and an extensive selection of whisky.

The pub has also made a commitment to the local community by giving two residents a 1 per cent share in the business.

The group originally launched a competition offering one local resident from the EH6 or EH7 postcode areas the chance to own a stake in the pub.

However, following a strong response, organisers decided to select two winners instead.

Seamus O’Murphy, owner of Auld Boy Pub Group, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing Arthur’s to Easter Road.

“We’ve put a lot of work into purchasing and refurbishing the pub, and we’re really looking forward to opening.”

He added that the competition had attracted huge interest, saying the group wanted the pub to become part of the community by giving local people a stake in its success.
