A bold collection of contemporary art by Scottish artists has gone on display at a hotel in the city centre of Edinburgh.
NYX Hotel Edinburgh has partnered with the Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) to create a playful collection of artwork across its public spaces, corridors, lift lobbies, the bar and DJ area.

The collection features work from a number of Scottish creatives including Glasgow based artists Ruby Lord, Daryl Terri Cooney and David Gilliver.
Multi-disciplinary artist Ruby Lord, who graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2021, has two pieces on display in the hotel's ground-floor lift lobby.
Her works Calton Collectables and Burano LV combine digital media with traditional painting.
Gilliver, also a Glasgow-based School of Art graduate, has brought one of his miniature worlds to the hotel with Spiderman, a photograph featuring a tiny superhero.

The piece can be found in the hotel’s first-floor DJ area, alongside sculptures by Ptolemy Erlington.
Erlington’s John Dory, Fighting Fish and Flat Fish transform reclaimed materials such as car wheel trims into colourful aquatic forms.

Elsewhere, Carl Moore’s Dripsters uses bold animal prints and barcode like paint drips to explore the commodification of nature, while Cooney’s work combines colour, pattern, humour and what she calls “organised chaos”.
The collection also features work by UK street artist .EPOD, whose spray painted pieces SASS APP.EAL and B.EBOLD add an urban edge to the first-floor lift lobby and bar.

The works were created live inside the hotel, allowing guests to see the creative process become part of the building itself.
Dance-inspired silkscreen prints by Jason Keeley feature in the first-floor bar seating area, while photographer Richard Heeps colourful Vinyl Collection provides a backdrop to the breakfast area.
The collection has been curated with the help of the RSA Art Consultancy, which worked with the hotel to select pieces reflecting its bold and playful identity.
Jane Lawrence, Art Consultant at the Royal Scottish Academy, said the partnership had created a collection that felt “energetic and a little unexpected”.
She added that the works would allow guests to discover art “as they move through the different spaces” rather than experiencing it solely in a traditional gallery setting.
Simone Villari, Hotel Manager at NYX Hotel Edinburgh, said creativity was “at the heart” of the NYX brand.
The Edinburgh Hotel is the first NYX property in Scotland, with the new collection intended to bring together local artists and creatives from further afield as part of its colourful, contemporary design.
