Lees Snowballs, macaroni pie and caramel wafers are the snacks that our readers say are the best in Scotland.

We all know that Scotland is home to some absolutely wonderful and unique foods and we wanted to celebrate our readers' favourites.

We asked our readers what the very best Scottish snacks were and they did not disappoint us with their responses.

They suggested classics such as Tunnock’s tea cakes and caramel wafers as well as more adventurous snacks like a deep-fried pizza.

Tunnock’s snacks came out on top with multiple readers suggesting the delicious chocolate treats were the ultimate Scottish trea.

Lesley Mccaffrey said: “I love the tea cakes but I have none left!”

Irene Kay also loves the classic snack but only if they have been kept in the fridge so they are the perfect crisp temperature.

Heather Downie suggested the Tunnock’s caramel wafer as an alternative to the classic tea cake.

Tunnock’s is a bakery company which is based in Uddingston, Scotland. While it is well known for its famous tea cake it also produces snowballs, caramel logs and wafer creams.

There were of course a few shall we say ‘less health-conscious’ suggestions from our readers - Luka Murphy said he enjoys a macaroni cheese pie and Kevin Whyte said he LOVES deep-fried pizza covered in chippy sauce.

It is not uncommon for foods to be deep-fried here in Scotland and quite frankly we can’t think of a better hangover cure.

There were a few bread-based suggestions including Janet Purvis who loves Scottish ‘square’ sausage sandwiches and Steven Rennie who recommended a chip roll with brown sauce and a pickle.

A couple of sweet tooth readers suggested Lee’s Snowballs - a coconut-covered marshmallow treat (yes, the same kind as our Tunnock’s make).

Suzy James, Val Keating, Ian Love McKenzie and Buddy The Elf all said that they enjoy the chocolate-covered ball of sugar.
