The cast of F9: The Fast Saga descended on the Capital for 19 days in September 2019, capturing footage in 11 different city centre locations.

In the newly-released clip, the madcap chase begins on Calton Road, John Cena’s character, Jakob, speeds off along Leith Street - pursued by Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew.

It is thought that Edinburgh locations including Waterloo Place, George Street, Cockburn Street, Victoria Street, the Royal Mile, Melville Street and the Museum of Scotland will also feature in the film.

Some readers, however, felt the city would be an unlikely venue for a car chase in 2021.

Stuart Young commented: “Imagine trying to film that now. Plastic bollards all about the place and white lines that look like a plate of spaghetti was used as a diagram.

“Vin diesel getting overtaken by some spandex-clad eco warrior on the latest 2 wheeled piece of junk,” he added.

Gavin Davidson agreed. “Great endorsement for the 20mph limits and spaces for people,” he wrote.

Paul Mccann added: "Mind the cycle lanes and the 20mph restrictions!"

“Did they manage to not break their cars on Edinburgh’s potholes?” Jon Sakura asked.

“If so, I hope they sent a bunch of flowers to Edinburgh Council.”

“Did the new tram lines not cause holdups?” Tomas Douglas Dickson quipped.

Other readers expressed their anticipation for F9’s release.

Alana Turner wrote that she was “so excited for this”, while Laura Heckles said she “can't wait to see it”.

Bryan Wood was less enthusiastic, writing: “Ahh the Fast and the Farfetched, back again for another pointless movie.”

Commenting on the fact that the showcased car chase seemed to play fast and loose with Edinburgh’s geography, Gillian McVittie said the continuity was “as good as it was in Trainspotting.”

For others, like Morag McIntyre, the clip brought back memories of 2019, when shooting on location in Edinburgh began.

“Saw some of this being filmed,” she wrote, “I couldn't believe how small Vin Diesel looked!”

F9: The Fast Saga is scheduled for release in UK cinemas on June 24.
