Underworld performing Trainspotting anthem Born Slippy live in Edinburgh was always likely to be epic – and so it proved.

The song became one of the 90s biggest dance tunes thanks to Danny's Boyle’s big-screen adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s cult novel. The upbeat track, of course, famously accompanies the Edinburgh-set film’s final moments and end credits.

With its “lager, lager, lager” refrain, Born Slippy has become something of a battle cry of hedonism. But in fact, Underworld frontman Karl Hyde said it’s been somewhat misinterpreted. Indeed, as he once told The Guardian: “I was still deep into alcoholism. It was never meant to be a drinking anthem; it was a cry for help.”

Underworld sent the Edinburgh crowd wild as they performed Trainspotting anthem Born Slippy at the Usher Hall.

Nevertheless, it’s an absolutely joyous, arms-in-the-air number that’s guaranteed to go down a storm in a club or at a gig. So when Underworld performed their most famous song during their Usher Hall gig on Wednesday night, the crowd, quite predictably, went absolutely mental.
