Rockstar Games apologises over GTA VI's 'heartbreaking' leaks and delays
Leaked scenes and gameplay footage have flooded the internet in the past weeks
The developer behind the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI has described its "heartbreaking" reaction to a series of leaks ahead of the game's release.
Leaked scenes and alleged footage of the hotly-anticipated game, primarily developed by Edinburgh-based Rockstar North, has flooded the internet months before its slated November 19 release.
Rockstar Games has now been forced to finally address the leaks surrounding the latest instalment of its billion dollar franchise which has spent years in development, saying they are “very sorry” for the delays.
Their apology comes just a day before an extended look of GTA VI is set to land on Netflix.

A post on the developer’s social media said: “It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heart breaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.
“We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has – from getting the game finished (nearly there!) to sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the community with everything you want to know.”
The game was hit with two delays having originally been scheduled for late 2025, which the company said was to ensure that they “exceed” fan’s expectations and “deliver at a level you expect and deserve”.
Rockstar North’s Edinburgh offices were met with protests last week after 31 employees were fired last year in a move union officials called ‘union busting’ whilst the games giant said the workers had leaked confidential information.
In today’s statement, the company urged fans to wait until the game is released to experience it and said it is “unfortunate that the intended game experience may now be impacted by some spoilers”.
They added: “We want to thank everyone in the community who has reached out with messages of support this past week – your words have meant more to this team than you can imagine.
“Ultimately, we are making this game for you, and without you, we would not have the privilege of making games.”
The extended look at GTA VI gameplay footage will be streaming on Netflix at 8pm on tomorrow, August 27.
