Works will be undertaken to improve the road surface, drainage and upgrading pedestrian crossing points on the busy route.

As a result of this work, a number of diversions will be in place during certain times, as well as parking restrictions and temporary traffic lights.

Phase one of the project will see crews work on the section of Seafield Road from Marine Esplanade to Seafield Place, with work beginning on November 2. The council has said that phase one is estimated to be completed within five weeks.

Road closures and parking suspensions will be in place between 7.30pm and 6.30am during overnight road surfacing works, while pavement and drainage works will be undertaken between 8am and 5pm on weekdays.

During the overnight road closures on Seafield Road between Marine Esplanade and Seafield Place, a diversion route will be in place via Fillyside Road, Craigentinny Avenue, Craigentinny Road, Sleigh Drive, Restalrig Road South, Restalrig Road, Gladstone Place, Claremont Park and Seafield Place.

Future work is expected to begin following the end of phase one, although exact start dates for these future works are yet to be announced.

Work on each phase will last multiple weeks. The project will be paused over the winter period, from 19 December to 11 January 2027.

Phase two will cover Salamander Street from Seafield Place to Carron Place, phase three covers Salamander Street from Carron Place to Elbe Street, and phase four of the project will see work begin on Baltic Street between Elbe Street and Constitution Street.

The City of Edinburgh Council said: “We understand that the work will be disruptive and want to thank you for your patience and understanding.

“Every effort will be made to accommodate residents and businesses and we hope that you will appreciate the benefits and improvements the work will deliver. If you have any specific queries, please do not hesitate to contact the site team directly or email us at [email protected].”
