Trams return to full route after signal fault caused major disruption in Edinburgh city centre
Both trams and buses were disrupted following a signal failure in the city centre
Commuters were caught up in city centre chaos this morning after a tram signal fault brought the major disruption to the network.
Trams and buses were disrupted near Princes Street after a “signal failure” on the tram line.
Edinburgh Trams services were initially only able to run between Edinburgh Airport and the West End, with services later running between Piccardy Place and Newhaven.
It has now been confirmed that the full route has returned to normal with all stop serviced between Edinburgh Airport and Newhaven.
However, passengers are being warned of “extended wait times” while services resume.

In an update to passengers, Edinburgh Trams said: “Trams are now running full route with extended wait times while we reform a 7 minute service. Apologies for the inconvenience.”
The signal failure caused long traffic queues and disruption on Princes Street.
Some Lothian Buses services were diverted away from Princes Street due to the congestion, but these have now returned to their normal routes.
However, there are still warning that buses are being delayed while both tram and bus services resume to normal.
The latest disruption to tram services comes after services were restricted last week due to a broken-down carriage on Leith Walk, with trams again only able to serve stops between Edinburgh Airport and West End.
Prior to this, the eastern side of the tram line had been out of action for around seven weeks due to the fire and subsequent temporary closure of Princes Street.
