Despite the cold temperatures, the sun was shining in Edinburgh on Thursday making this video even more beautiful as the rays reflected off the glistening shards of ice in Leith Docks.

The eye-catching footage, filmed by a crew member, shows the ginormous ice shards floating on the water at Leith Docks as the patrol boat sailed through the area.

You can see the ripples from the vessel in the water gently disturbing the ice that had formed as the sun was brightly reflecting off the mirrored surface.

Yesterday saw temperatures in the Capital plunge to -13C overnight, rising slightly to hover at round -8C for most of the morning, which explains why the docks became somewhat of an ice rink overnight.

This wasn't the only area of the city that saw extraordinary weather related occurrences, with residents making the most of the extreme wintry conditions, this unbelievable video shows a skier taking to Edinburgh's Victoria Street during heavy snowfall earlier this week.

This footage shows as a car found itself stranded on the Royal Mile, unable to grip the ground as snow continued to fall. It eventually made it thanks to some friendly passers-by offering a helping hand.
