Edinburgh weather: landslide sweeps away road amid flooding and thunderstorms

A section of a major road linking Edinburgh with the Northeast of England has collapsed during dramatic thunderstorms last night.
Authorities have closed the impacted section of the A68, near the small village of Fala, 15 miles south of Edinburgh, while engineers work to make it safe.
No one is thought to have been involved in the incident.

Hide AdThe A68 is a major trunk road for traffic travelling through the Borders between Darlington and Edinburgh.
Amey South East, which maintains trunk roads in the region, said a diversion had been established for traffic on the route, and confirming that an investigation was underway into “the full extent of the damage.”
They added that maintenance crews were already working to repair the roadway, but warned that “clearly it will take some time.”
