Westfield St James Quarter will be turned into a Christmas wonderland next month with the date set for the annual Christmas light switch-on set.

Forth One presenters Boogie and Arlene will be on hand to lead the free festive event, which will be held from 5pm in Register Square.

In the run up to the big moment, there will be plenty of activities to help attendees get into the Christmas spirit, including an appearance from a traditional Santa Claus and Mary Claus.

The event will kick off at 5pm with a festive parade through St James Quarter before festivities hit Register Square. Those taking part include members from the Royal Lyceum’s production of A Christmas Carol, world champion beatboxer Hobbit and other musicians and dancers.

Boogie and Arlene will be on hand to push the button and turn Westfield St James Quarter into a sparkling winter wonderland.

The duo will then be sweeping through the shopping mall collecting gifts for the Cash for Kids Mission Christmas appeal, which Westfield St James Quarter is supporting once again.

Anne Ledgerwood, estates director, Westfield St James Quarter, said: “Christmas is such a special time of year in Edinburgh, and we’re looking forward to bringing the festive season to life at Westfield St James Quarter.

“Having Boogie and Arlene join us to officially switch on the lights will be a fantastic way to start the celebrations, and we’re excited to welcome visitors to Register Square to commemorate the switch on.

“From our Christmas light switch-on to the festive entertainment taking place throughout the Quarter over the coming weeks, there will be plenty of opportunities for families, friends and visitors to enjoy the magic of Christmas at Westfield St James Quarter.”
