Christie sees Bonnyrigg’s draw as chance to cross swords with Craig

MAX CHRISTIE is hoping to set up a reunion with his former Scotland Under-21 boss by securing a dream date for Bonnyrigg in the next round of the Scottish Cup.

A trip to Paisley to take on SPL side St Mirren awaits Rose if they can come out on top in this Saturday’s replay against Brechin.

“It’s a big carrot for us,” admitted Christie, who knows both Saints boss Danny Lennon and his No. 2 Tommy Craig from his own playing days.

He added: “Danny is three years older than me but he was on the ground staff at Hibs when I used to go in there to train during the summer
holidays.

“I know him and Tommy, too, both from him working under John Blackley at Hibs and when he was the Scotland Under-21 manager.

“I played a couple of games for them when he was in charge so it would be great if I got the chance to pit my wits against both him and Danny.”

Hibs entertaining Hearts is undoubtedly the clash of the round, but Christie is hoping Rose would take some of the spotlight that weekend if they could earn the trip along the M8. “It’s not Hibs, Hearts or either of the Old Firm but for Bonnyrigg to be taking on an SPL side would be fantastic,” he admitted. “I don’t know how many times the club have faced Premier Division teams in a competitive match, but it would be fantastic for the
current group of players.”
