Edinburgh City, Spartans, and Bonnyrigg Rose exit KDM Evolution Trophy

Capital duo Edinburgh City and Spartans crashed out of the KDM Evolution Trophy after defeat to Championship clubs.

The Citizens lost 3-0 at Meadowbank to league leaders Partick Thistle in the last 32 where the hosts played more than an hour with ten men after Keir Foster was sent off for a second yellow just before the 30-minute mark.

Visitors Thistle capitalised and edged in front a minute before the break as Alex Samuel turned the ball in from close range.

Ben Stanway added a second 60 seconds later to give City a mountain to climb in the second half and, despite a valiant effort, Partick made sure of their passage into the last 16 when Seb Drozd's fine individual effort made it three with four minutes remaining.

James Craigen's Spartans were beaten 2-0 by Livingston at the Vanloq Community Stadium, Shane Blaney finally making the breakthrough in the 81st minute for the West Lothian outfit. Robbie Muirhead then added a decisive second in stoppage time.

Elsewhere, Bonnyrigg Rose also succumbed to a Championship outfit when the Lowland League East side lost 4-2 to Neil Lennon's Dunfermline.

Jonny Stewart's hosts seized the initiative at New Dundas Park, Jordan Smith striking in the seventh minute.

The Pars upped the tempo and found themselves 4-1 to the good at the break courtesy of a John Tod brace, and solo efforts from Chris Kane and Olly Thomas.

MacKenzie Scott's goal six minutes after the restart reduced the deficit but Rose were unable to salvage any comeback.
