The 24-year-old has signed with Burton Albion on loan until the end of the season and will be managed by former Premier League ace Jimmy Floyed Hasselbaink.

Clare’s Tynecastle exit was confirmed in August when he joined English League One side Oxford United.

Signed as a right-back after impressing in the position under former Hearts boss Daniel Stendel, the Englishman started ten games, nine of which came in the first ten matches of the season. He, however, fell out of the starting XI.

Hasselbaink confirmed he is looking for Clare to be a box-to-box midfielder.

"Sean's coming in on loan from Oxford to compete for a midfield position,” he told the club’s official website. He's box-to-box, very energetic and very athletic.

"I feel we need more legs in the midfield, and he's definitely giving us that. He's somebody who has played Championship football and has largely played in the SPL (sic).”

Clare was versatile at Tynecastle, playing on the right of defence and midfield as well as in the centre where he believes he can showcase his qualities.

"I’ve spoken to him a couple of times,” the player said. “He sees me as a central midfielder and that’s where I see myself - someone who can be box-to-box, get forward but also get back and help the team defend.

"I like getting on the ball, driving with it and hopefully I can chip in with some goals and assists to help us up the table."
