Hibs hero opens up on future with contract expiring next summer as he names ideal destination
He is famed for contributions at Hibs but has spent plenty of time abroad.
A Hibs hero has said he is hoping to remain in Italy as his contract expiry date rolls into view.
Liam Henderson will always have a place in Hibs history after assists during the famous 2016 Scottish Cup final win over Rangers. He has spent much of his career since those halcyon Leith days in Italy, playing with a variety of clubs, now with Empoli.
He spent time at Palermo last season on loan but has returned to his parent club in Serie A. His contract expires at the end of this season and as of yet, there has been no extension dished out to the midfielder who’s played 14 times this season.
Speaking on his future, Henderson is keen to stay in Italy, where he feels the Scottish market can be to Serie A’s benefit. The cup-winning hero told Empoli Channel: "My goal is to stay at Empoli, I came back here to give and do my best for this club. I feel at home.
“The feeling with the coach was created right from the start. I was coming off a complicated year (Palermo, ed.) and he was very good with me from day one. I found the coach at the right time, I have matured compared to the last few years, I am happy to have remained in Serie A.
"Here I found a group of brothers, they are all good guys. From the captain Grassi to the coach, who has created an environment of 'all of us against the others'. We have an aggressive mentality, made up of a lot of intensity, Atalanta is a master team in this. We can improve in dribbling, every day in training we focus on this aspect too.
“We have a big heart and the mentality to work every day, the Scottish market is perfect for Italian teams.”
