How many pass marks would you hand out at the footballing equivalent of half term, then? There wouldn’t be many in this Hibs squad looking forward to parents’ evening, given their efforts over the opening 15 games of season 2026-27.
For every high, there have been at least two lows. Crashing out of Europe at the final hurdle in truly agonising fashion. Losing the derby – thanks at least in part to a red card from a player who should know better.
Despite guiding Hibs to their first semi-final since 2023, David Gray ultimately paid the price as the Easter Road board removed the manager – who had secured back-to-back European qualification by finishing third and then fifth in his first two seasons as a head coach – last week. Since then, more than one player has spoken about the collective responsibility they’ve felt over the gaffer’s sacking.
So let’s take a look at how they’ve all fared, individually, in a campaign where only one or two have impressed with anything approaching consistency.
This isn’t a rating of their ability as footballers, as such. Or even, when it comes to it, their performances when they’ve been on the field.
Consider it, instead, a numerical mark based on their contribution to the season. It doesn’t make for pretty reading.

1. GK Raphael Sallinger
4.5/10 Hasn't kept many clean sheets - just three in a hectic schedule of 15 games. That's down to more than just the goalkeeper, of course. Without too many glaring errors, he's just been lacking a bit in some areas. | SNS Group

2. CM Miguel Chaiwa
4.5/10 Has struggled as much as anyone, although he briefly looked very impressive - defensively, at least - as a No. 6. Has he been affected by summer interest from Celtic fading away to nothing? | SNS Group

3. CB Grant Hanley
4/10 The veteran won't be surprised to find fans wondering if his time is up; he's been in this position before. Some genuinely good performances but some shockers - and an injury - haven't helped the narrative. | SNS

4. CF Martin Boyle
5/10 So hard to judge the guy who regularly wears the armband. Hasn't always started. Fourth goal of the season, from the penalty spot against Aberdeen, should lift his spirits. But could go either way.
