The Edinburgh & Lothians Miniature Railway Club will be celebrating the exhibition’s landmark 75th anniversary during the annual event.

More than 20 layouts are scheduled to appear with a variety of scales, time periods and locations set to be shown from groups from across Scotland.

There will also be a LEGO railway which can be operated by children among the attractions, giving younger visitors a chance to discover the hobby.

Among those joining the celebrations this weekend include Linlithgow-based model railway retailer Rainbow Railways.

A spokesperson for Rainbow Railways said: "Model railways are one of those hobbies that can start incredibly simply. It might be playing with a wooden railway when you're little, receiving your first train set from a parent or grandparent, or visiting an exhibition like Edinburgh and seeing a proper model railway operating for the first time.

"Events like this are incredibly important because they let people see what can actually be created. You don't need to already be a railway enthusiast to enjoy it — there's an enormous amount of creativity, craftsmanship and imagination involved.

"We're particularly pleased to be supporting the Edinburgh exhibition in its 75th anniversary year. It's an amazing venue and always a fantastic weekend."

The Edinburgh Model Railway Exhibition will be open from 10am until 5pm on Saturday, and 10am until 4pm on Sunday.

Tickets to the exhibition will cost £8 per adult and £3 for children between five and 15. Children under the age of five will be admitted for free. There is also a family ticket priced at £18 which will admit two adults and two children.

Tickets can be bought on the Edinburgh Model Railway Exhibition website or on the door.
