9. Final farewell to Ken Buchanan
Hundred of mourners turned out to say a final farewell to legendary Edinburgh boxer and former world champion Ken Buchanan, one of Scotland’s greatest sporting heroes, who died on April 1, aged 77. His life was celebrated at a service in St Giles’ Cathedral after a funeral procession which began in Leith and drove slowly past the former site of Sparta Boxing Club and the Ken Buchanan statue at the top of Leith Walk. 10. Cutting bus journey times
City transport convener Scott Arthur claimed bus journey times in Edinburgh could be cut by as much as a quarter through new measures planned on eight key routes into the Capital. e aid the council planned to consult on proposals costing up to £250 million for bus priority lanes, junction improvements and the latest technology which can change traffic lights to help late-running buses make up time. 11. Care boss quits
Edinburgh's health and social care chief Judith Proctor left her job weeks after a critical report by the Care Inspectorate. Ms Proctor was also at the centre of controversial plans to close council-owned care homes in the Capital. Her departure, after five years in the role, was announced to staff in an email from council chief executive Andrew Kerr, but he gave no explanation for her leaving. One council source said councillors from all parties had grown increasingly dissatisfied and the Care Inspectorate report was "the straw that broke the camel's back". Photo: supplied
12. UK's first driverless buses
The trial of the UK's first autonomous full-sized passenger bus fleet began when Stagecoach launched a driverless bus service across the Forth Road Bridge. Scotland's transport minister Kevin Stewart was one of the first to strap in as the Stagecoach vehicles were tested on the service between Ferry Toll near Inverkeithing and Edinburgh Park.
