The ideal job for feline servants has just been advertised at Edinburgh cat cafe, Maison de Moggy.
This West Port venue is recruiting for casual cat nannies, who will have to work flexible hours here and there, to cover sickness and holiday.
They say it’s ideal for those who have other commitments, such as another job, or are students, “who cannot commit to fixed hours but still want to be part of our team”. “You must not mind getting your paws dirty,” says the advert, on this Living Wage Employer’s website.
“Our casual cat nannies will be trained to expect absolutely anything as no two days are ever the same here,” says general manager, Claire Morrison, who has already dealt with “tonnes” of applications. “ This will range from brushing the cats’ teeth in the morning, bathing Elodie our sphynx cat, making purrfect cappuccinos, and ensuring our guests receive the amazing experience that Maison de Moggy is now famous for”.
Their current line up of glamorous talent includes British shorthair, Coco Carbonnelle; Norwegian Forest Cat, Fabian; the blue-eyed ragdoll siblings, Alain and Amelie, chinchilla Persian, Guillaume, and Bengali twins, Philippe and Marcel.
The business reopened to booking guests on April 26, but is only able to accommodate half the number of guests as before. They also can’t have tables outside, like other cafes, as the cats would soon make a break for it. Their online shop has helped them through lockdown, with products including vouchers and the obligatory “cat-alogue”.
“We are so happy to have made it through the last year but our cafe, like all hospitality venues, is still being severely impacted”, says Claire. “Lockdown has been tough, I won't sugar coat things. Like many small businesses in Edinburgh we rent our accommodation and were not offered any discounts or pauses. Unlike many businesses we still had high overheads, as even though we were closed, we still had a little family of 10 hungry mouths to feed and care for daily. We are so grateful to all of our amazing followers who supported us through the lockdown by purchasing from our online shop”.
