If there’s one thing the Capital has in abundance, it’s cosy pubs. Where you can enjoy a pint, some comforting pub grub, and perhaps a pub quiz or sport on a big screen to watch. We asked readers on our Facebook page to share their favourite cosy pubs in Edinburgh. This is what they said.
5. Deacon Brodies Tavern
Named after a man who inspired Robert Louis Stevenson’s Jekyll and Hyde, Deacon Brodies Tavern has a rich history and retains some elaborate period features. Found in Lawnmarket, in the midst of Old Town, this pub serves hearty scran and cask ales. Photo: Ian Georgeson
6. The Conan Doyle
The Conan Doyle is a traditional Scottish pub with bags of character, an eclectic range of real ales, and tasty pub grub. Found at the top of Leith Walk in York Place, this pub gets its name from its proximity to the Sherlock Holmes author's birthplace in Picardy Place. Photo: Google Streetview
7. The Bridge Inn
A little outside of Edinburgh in the small conservation village of Ratho sits The Bridge Inn on the banks of the Union Canal. It's a cosy base for anyone wishing to enjoy a pint at the end of a beautiful canalside walk. Their food is also raved about, with local suppliers championed and 100 per cent Scottish fish and meat. 8. The Abbotsford Bar
Found in Rose Street, The Abbotsford is an Edwardian pub with a lavish island bar carved from Spanish mahogany, said to be made in the Golden Age of Scottish pub design. That alone is worth a visit, but there is also a generous selection of cask ales and whiskies, a roaring fire, and tasty all-Scottish menu. Photo: Google Maps
