Granton-based Powderhall Bronze, whose casting work includes the city’s beloved Elm Row pigeon sculptures, the Ken Buchanan statue and Wojtek the bear in Princes Street Gardens, are offering 90-minute walking tours in August where visitors can learn about the casting process and current projects at the foundry.
Founded in 1989 by husband-and-wife team Brian Caster and Kerry Hammond, Powderhall Bronze is one of the only remaining fine art foundries in Scotland.

Hide AdThe family run foundry is renowned for casting a vast array of bronze artworks from small gallery pieces to monumental public artworks. Other notable works include ‘Really Good’ by David Shrigley, sited on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square and ‘Your next breath’ by Kenny Hunter situated outside Edinburgh’s Royal College of Surgeons.
Founders Brian and Kerry will lead the walking tours and explain how they use an ancient lost wax casting process to create their bronze sculptures and host a question and answer session at the end of the event. The tours will take place on August 4 and 27 at the foundry on 18-19 West Harbour Road.
Tickets for the tours are now on sale, with a glass of wine or soft drink included in the £20 price. The tour is wheelchair accessible and chairs will be placed throughout the space for those who would prefer to be seated.
