Flames spotted sending black plumes of smoke into the sky near Edinburgh University

Firefighters raced to a blaze which broke out near Edinburgh university on Monday morning, May 29.

Flames had sparked and were tearing through bins and ground floor garages in Nicolson Square, the fire service said. Crews including three pumps were sent to the scene at around 7am to battle the flames. There were no reports of any injuries, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said, and the scene was made safe.
