Edinburgh Trams drivers hope for a change of track at European championships
Edinburgh’s top tram drivers have been rigorously selected in hopes of turning round the city’s poor performance
Two of Edinburgh Tram’s top drivers are flying the flag for Scotland at the European Tram Driver Championships this weekend.
High stakes challenges will test Emma White and Jason Moffat’s skills including curling, bowling and stopping without spilling a water container attached to the tram.
It is hoped the pair, who were selected through a "rigorous” internal selection process, will turn around Edinburgh’s historically poor performance when they arrive in Warsaw on Saturday.

They will face stiff competition from the 26 other European cities competing.
Mr Moffat represented the city at last year's championship in which he placed 18th, up from Edinburgh Tram’s 22nd place finish the year before.
He said: “When we went last year, we were the team that got involved in everything, had fun and that’s what it’s all about. It’s about having fun.
“Obviously, during the competition, we’re going to do as best we possibly can but have fun whilst we’re doing it.”

While it might be Emma White’s first year competing, she was in Vienna last year to cheer on Edinburgh.
“I went over as a spectator to watch the competition previously and just seeing the buzz of the whole thing was amazing,” the rookie tram bowler said.
She added: “To be able to go over to represent Edinburgh at this year’s championship is a really exciting opportunity that I’ve been trying to do for the past couple of years.
“So, to finally be representing Edinburgh Trams, I am really excited and can’t wait to take part!”
