New outdoor sauna with cold plunge to open in Midlothian at scenic waterfront location

The sauna will offer 30-minute slots for just £10 per person.

A scenic outdoor sauna with a cold plunge is set to open on the banks of a Midlothian loch from Saturday.

The Finnish-style facility is set on the waterfront at Rosslynlee Trout Fishery near Penicuik, and boasts beautiful views looking out towards Edinburgh, Fife and the Moorfoot Hills.

Visitors will be able to book 30-minute ‘sauna and dip’ sessions, with a cold water bucket shower and steps leading down from the sauna into the loch.

The sauna will welcome its first visitors on Saturday, and thereafter will be open on Mondays from 4pm to 8pm, and Thursday to Sunday between 9am and 5pm.

Prices range from £10 per person for a half an hour slot, while a one hour private sauna session for a group of up to 15 guests costs £150.

Regulars will also be able to purchase a pass for five sauna sessions for £40, or ten sessions for £75.

The 5-acre loch is also home to Urban Performance, a HYROX training gym, and several glamping pods.

“We’ve done all the sampling and safety checks and we’re now just really excited to open,” said Mark Perfect, the co-owner and proprietor of the Rosslynlee Trout Fishery.

“The setting here is beautiful. From the sauna you can see a dozen or so fisherman, swans and ducks in the water and ponies and cows in the fields.

“It’s really atmospheric and a really peaceful place for a sauna. I think it will be a hit.”

Mr Perfect said he also hopes to offer coffee and hot drinks to customers in the near future.

The sauna is located five miles off the Edinburgh bypass and four miles from Bonnyrigg on the A6094 Bonnyrigg to Howgate road.
