With so many interesting and breathtaking spots all over Edinburgh, we asked our reporters for their favourite spot in the Capital. Whether it’s a world-famous tourist attraction like Edinburgh Castle, a green spot to grab some peace and quiet such as the Meadows or a hidden gem, everyone has a favourite spot in the city where they like to spend their time.
5. Royal Botanic Garden
Evening News reporter Anna Bryan said of her favourite spot in Edinburgh: "The Royal Botanic Garden is my favourite Edinburgh spot. It's especially gorgeous in spring, when the flowers are beginning to bloom, but it makes for a peaceful escape from the city all year round." Photo: Bill Blair
6. Cramond
Reporter Jolene Campbell's favourite spot in Edinburgh is Cramond, with the promenade and island in the background pictured above. She said: "Cramond is one of my favourite spots in Edinburgh. I used to take my daughter during lockdowns and it always felt like a haven in the city. You can't beat a walk along the promenade especially on a windy day. Brisk!" Photo: Lisa Ferguson
7. The Waverley Bar
Evening News Lifestyle Editor Gary Flockhart said of his favourite spot in Edinburgh: "The Waverley Bar is where I go to relax. Admittedly, it lost a bit of its magic when the orignal owner, Ian Walker, passed away several years back. But it still retains enough of its old charm, such as the shabby-chic Whithnail & I-like decor, and Edinburgh Fringe posters from festivals long gone by. It's a bar with so much history. Legendary folk musicians like Bert Jansch and Dick Gaughan cut their musical teeth playing at the weekly open-mic night, and so many famous names have passed through its doors. A dying breed, the St Mary’s Street boozer is a throwback to a bygone age." Photo: sub
8. The Shore
Edinburgh Evening News deputy editor Ginny Sanderson said of her favourite spot in Edinburgh: "The Shore is my favourite spot in Edinburgh, with its Scandinavian architecture and stunning views of the Water of Leith. It's always buzzy, filled with incredible independent restaurants and pubs, but at the same time it's incredibly peaceful, with seabirds and swans enjoying the waterfront. If you live here, as I was lucky to, you don't need to go into the city centre - you've got everything you need right here." Photo: Bill Bennett
