Motorists warned of Edinburgh City Bypass diversion for overnight roadworks

Edinburgh bypass road improvements to be carried out next week

Motorists have been warned about a diversion on the Edinburgh City Bypass for planned overnight roadworks next week.

A short diversion for eastbound traffic on the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass will be in place between 8.30pm and 6am on the night of Thursday, September 17, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out repairs to the road surface.

Eastbound traffic on the A720 will be diverted off the main carriageway at Lothianburn Junction, over the roundabout and then immediately back on again. This will add approximately minute minute and 0.1 miles to affected journeys.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “It’s necessary to close the eastbound A720 at Lothianburn Junction to allow us to carry out repairs to the carriageway.

“We’ll do this overnight to minimise disruption and the diversion is a short one, so no significant delays are expected.”

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times. Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Live traffic information is available from Traffic Scotland at www.traffic.gov.scot or on X at @trafficscotland.

All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
