Hibs derby goal ace couldn't celebrate at Easter Road - but knows Hampden party would be beyond wildest dreams
Englishman was desperate to draw Hearts in Premier Sports Cup semis
It’s still a source of regret that Adam Mayor wasn’t fully able to celebrate his stunning Edinburgh derby goal at Easter Road. But the new Hibs ace knows that even his wildest imaginings wouldn’t come close to the scenes should he score in a Hampden win over Hearts.
The Englishman was desperate to draw the Gorgie boys in the last four of the Premier Sports Cup, having finished on the wrong end of a 3-1 loss in his first experience of the fixture earlier this month. And he revealed that the Hibs players were already anticipating another crack at their near neighbours even as they travelled home from Saturday’s quarter-final win over Ross County in Dingwall.
Hibs players all wanted Hearts

“There was a lot of talk on the bus,” said Mayor. “It was perfect, it just seemed like we were going to get them anyway.
“I had it in my head that it was nailed on we were going to get Hearts. I think a lot of lads probably expected it a little bit.
Wide man wants to ‘get one back’ on rivals
“I came on (in the last derby) and had a good game so straight away I've got it in my head. I didn’t start the game so I was like: ‘Next time I want to get one back on these.’ So hopefully we can do that.
“I didn't really get to celebrate my because obviously it put it back to 2-1. So it was more about get back in, get the game going, and go and get another goal. So I didn't really get a proper chance to celebrate.
“But hopefully I get a chance to celebrate at Hampden. I've got an idea about what that would be like, yeah - but I don't think you'll ever realise how good it'll feel until something like that actually happens.
“I'm made up with the draw to be honest. I think it's a chance for us to go and get one back, and there's no better place to go and get one back on them. It would mean more to the fans than if we can go and do it in the semis.”
