How many pass marks would you hand out at the footballing equivalent of half term, then? There wouldn’t be many in this Hibs squad looking forward to parents’ evening, given their efforts over the opening 15 games of season 2026-27.
For every high, there have been at least two lows. Crashing out of Europe at the final hurdle in truly agonising fashion. Losing the derby – thanks at least in part to a red card from a player who should know better.
Despite guiding Hibs to their first semi-final since 2023, David Gray ultimately paid the price as the Easter Road board removed the manager – who had secured back-to-back European qualification by finishing third and then fifth in his first two seasons as a head coach – last week. Since then, more than one player has spoken about the collective responsibility they’ve felt over the gaffer’s sacking.
So let’s take a look at how they’ve all fared, individually, in a campaign where only one or two have impressed with anything approaching consistency.
This isn’t a rating of their ability as footballers, as such. Or even, when it comes to it, their performances when they’ve been on the field.
Consider it, instead, a numerical mark based on their contribution to the season. It doesn’t make for pretty reading.

13. CB/RB Kanayo Megwa
3/10 A fringe player for most of the season, he played well enough when called upon. And then picked up an injury that compounded a defensive crisis. | SNS Group

14. LWB/LB/LM Adam Mayor
4.5/10 Started so poorly that the only way was up. Improved dramatically - and has shown versatility in playing a number of positions. But better than Nicky Cadden, once the latter is fit? Hmmm. | Hibs TV - YouTube

15. LCB/LB/LWB Jordan Obita
5/10 Really been missed by Hibs since picking up a calf injury early in the derby loss at the start of the month. Great on left of a three, at left back or wingback, the experienced Uganda international should walk back into the team when fit. | SNS Group

16. CM Jacob Devaney
3/10 Still a kid. And you don't see many 19-year-olds dominating Scottish Premiership midfields. Manchester United loanee looked great on his debut at Dens Park, as well ... | SNS Group
