How many pass marks would you hand out at the footballing equivalent of half term, then? There wouldn’t be many in this Hibs squad looking forward to parents’ evening, given their efforts over the opening 15 games of season 2026-27.
For every high, there have been at least two lows. Crashing out of Europe at the final hurdle in truly agonising fashion. Losing the derby – thanks at least in part to a red card from a player who should know better.
Despite guiding Hibs to their first semi-final since 2023, David Gray ultimately paid the price as the Easter Road board removed the manager – who had secured back-to-back European qualification by finishing third and then fifth in his first two seasons as a head coach – last week. Since then, more than one player has spoken about the collective responsibility they’ve felt over the gaffer’s sacking.
So let’s take a look at how they’ve all fared, individually, in a campaign where only one or two have impressed with anything approaching consistency.
This isn’t a rating of their ability as footballers, as such. Or even, when it comes to it, their performances when they’ve been on the field.
Consider it, instead, a numerical mark based on their contribution to the season. It doesn’t make for pretty reading.

17. RB/RWB Felix Passlack
5/10 German wingback/fullback has suffered in the slump. A couple of goals and assists show what Hibs could/should be getting out of him more regularly, once other areas of the team are tightened up. | SNS Group

18. LWB/LW Nicky Cadden
2/10 Less than half an hour of football in a season that has seen Hibs play 15 competitive fixtures. Has been fit enough to make the bench, so the calf must be fine. Will be interesting to see if he's lost anything as a result of injury. | SNS Group

19. LCB/LB Jack Iredale
3.5/10 That red card against Hearts might have changed the course of the entire season. Entire campaign has felt like a bit of a struggle for the Aussie, who has been - in the past - an important figure for Hibs. | SNS Group

20. CM Joe Newell
3/10 Two starts and a handful of substitute appearance from the club captain. Does he have a future under a new manager? Has it all to prove. | SNS Group
