The Edinburgh Evening News is celebrating its 150th anniversary, and to mark the occasion, we’re naming the city’s most famous faces. We'll be looking at 150 lauded musicians, actors, writers, local heroes and more, who have earned a place in history – not just in Edinburgh, but across the world. We’ve already honoured some big names, from David Tennant to Eric Liddell. Going in alphabetical order, here are the most famous faces from Edinburgh, from G to H.
5. Georgia King
Actress Georgia King is best known for her role as Goldie, surrogate mother in American sitcom The New Normal. After getting her first break in acting at 18 she made her debut as Rosamond Oliver in Jane Eyre. She has appeared in Merlin, Skins and St Trinian's 2. 6. Gordon Brown
Gordon Brown served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Labour Party from 2007 to 2010, after ten years as Chancellor of the Exchequer in Tony Blair's government. Brown studied history at the University of Edinburgh, where he was elected Rector in 1972. He spent his early career working as a college lecturer and television journalist. Photo: John Devlin
7. Grodon Strachan
The Scottish football icon played for Dundee, Aberdeen, Manchester United, Leeds United and Coventry City, as well as the Scotland national team. 8. Graeme Souness - Raith Rovers Hall of Fame
Graeme Souness is an ex-international footballer, manager, and pundit. He was captain of Liverpool team in early 1980s, player-manager of Rangers in the late 1980s and captain of the Scotland national team. The 70-year-old left Sky Sports after 20 years in 2023. Photo: neil doig
