Haddington RFC and Robertson Bros Engineering Join Forces to Support Girls Rugby
Haddington Rugby Football Club is delighted to announce a new partnership with local engineering business Robertson Bros Engineering Ltd, creating a shared commitment to supporting the growth, development and recognition of girls in rugby and the wider development of young people within the local community.

The partnership will see Robertson Bros become a key supporter of HRFC’s girls rugby programme, with a particular focus on recognising the crucial off-field qualities that contribute to the experience of playing rugby and representing Haddington RFC and Knox Academy
These include contribution, work ethic, engagement, teamwork, leadership, resilience, commitment and positive influence, qualities which are important not only within a sporting environment, but also in education, employment and wider community life.
As part of the partnership, Robertson Bros will become the naming sponsor of the monthly “Robertson Bros Eng – Girl of Steel” Award.
The award will recognise qualities that help build a strong team environment, including work ethic, teamwork, leadership, engagement, commitment, supporting teammates and achieving personal or team goals.
Importantly, the award is not focused on physical performance or match outcomes. It provides an opportunity to recognise the many different ways young players contribute to their team, their club and the people around them.
The partnership also represents a continuation of a long-standing Robertson family connection with Haddington Rugby Club. For the Robertson family, HRFC is not simply a local sporting organisation. It has been part of the family and the wider Haddington community across generations, with Alan Robertson, Sophie Robertson’s father, and Jake Robertson, her grandfather, both having played important roles within the club.
That history makes the partnership particularly meaningful for Robertson Bros and reflects the company’s wider commitment to supporting the local community in which the business has operated for generations.
Sophie Robertson, Managing Director of Robertson Bros Engineering, said: “We are delighted to support Haddington Rugby Club and, in particular, the development of girls’ rugby. For us, the ‘Girl of Steel’ award is about recognising the qualities that often sit behind sporting achievement. Commitment, teamwork, resilience, leadership, work ethic and supporting others all play a crucial role in helping young people and teams develop.
Scott Brownlee, President Haddington RFC said: “A huge thank you to Roberston Bros. Haddington RFC are delighted to have the support of Robertson Bros sponsoring our girl’s rugby programme. The commitment from Robertson Bros is helping the next generation of girls develop both rugby, sporting and life long skills including work ethic, engagement, teamwork, leadership, resilience, commitment and developing a positive influence with others. These are all brilliant life skills for rugby, sport and for their future. Thank you for backing our girls and our club!”
The first Robertson Bros Eng Girl of Steel award will be announced as part of the club’s ongoing girls rugby programme, with regular player stories and updates shared throughout the season.
