Edinburgh locals 'scream' with joy as cult donut shop returns to its old neighbourhood

When Kilted Donut announced the closure of their Leith branch in April 2022, it's safe to say locals were gutted.

The cult favourite bakery, known for its fresh homemade artisan donuts, cited “the cost of living, increases in costs and a lack of staff” as reasons why they could no longer stay open, and within days the shutters were pulled on their Great Junction Street venue.

Now, more than two years on from that sad closure, Kilted Donut is set to return to Leith – and locals are buzzing about it.

Sharing the happy news on Instagram, owners Mark and Lena teased: “The Leith store is cooking, the bun is in the oven, the donut is in the fryer!

“You get what we’re trying to say here… Kilted Donut Leith, coming soon.”

As you might imagine, the news was received by Kilted Donut’s followers. One customer could hardly contain her excitement, saying: “This is amazingly good news... we've missed you. We'll get the kettle on.”

Another wrote: “This has single-handedly cured my seasonal depression,” while a third person posted: ”Just walked past the store before seeing this post and screamed'.

Kilted Donut currently has branches in the Grassmarket and Morningside Road.
