Randy's Donuts: Famous LA donut chain featured in Iron Man 2 to open first UK store in Edinburgh city centre
The Scottish store is the American will be chain’s first in the UK.
Famous US donut chain Randy’s, known for its iconic giant donut sign which featured in Iron Man 2, has announced it is opening its first UK store in Edinburgh city centre.
Planning permission has been submitted to Edinburgh council to transform 55 Forest Road, opposite Middle Meadow Walk, the unit previously occupied by the Mexican chain Barburrito.
The chain, which was established in 1952, is a so-called “LA institution” and has become instantly recognisable for its 32-foot donut signs which sit on the roof of its US stores.

In Iron Man 2, Tony Stark famously stops at the iconic Inglewood branch in California, where he eats a box of donuts sitting inside the giant rooftop ring.
The company has 30 sites across the US and also has branches in South Korea, the Philippines, Japan and Mexico. Its new Scottish store will be the global company’s UK debut.
No official opening date has been announced for the store, with its website hinting only that it is “coming soon”.
In 2024, chief executive Mark Kelegian said the company was seeking to expand in the UK, suggesting it would likely open a “regional” store before turning its focus to London.

He said: "We are thrilled to announce that Randy's Donuts is coming to the UK. We are confident that our unique brand and delicious doughnuts will be a hit with UK customers as it has been in Asia, the Middle East and the USA."
On the menu is likely to be range of classics - including the Glazed Raised, Cinnamon Crumb and Sprinkled Ice - as well as deluxe options such as the Chocolate Old Fashioned and Blueberry Iced Cake.
Its premium selection offers flavours like Bacon Maple, Nutella, Matcha Tea and Red Velvet Cake. Randy’s also sells coffee and cold drinks as well as a selection of breakfast sandwiches.
Drawings submitted in the planning application reveal plans for an illuminated logo and signage with lit letters, and floor to ceiling windows and doors. It is understood there will be no major changes to the interior.
Barburrito - a budget Mexican chain popular spot among students - occupied the unit from 2016.
