Alongside recent shows, BritBox will also be the home of a variety of classic British comedies, dramas and documentaries.

Shows including Love Island, Gavin & Stacey, Gentleman Jack and Broadchurch will be on BritBox when it launches this year.

This subscription service will cost £5.99 per month in HD, launching between October and the end of December.

The press release said that "viewers will want to subscribe to BritBox because it is uniquely British", and that there is "growing consumer demand in the UK for streaming services".

However, this new service will face tough competition, with nearly 10 million British homes already subscribing to Netflix, with other streaming services such as Amazon already popular established streaming platforms.
