Scotland will face an intriguing test as they kick off their Six Nations campaign with a home clash against Italy on Saturday.
Just under 12 months have passed since the two sides played out something of a thriller in Rome as they shared seven tries in front of almost 70,000 supporters at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico. On that day, it was the Italians who came out on top, just as they did in their first ever meeting with Scotland way back in 2000.
The boot of Diego Dominguez led the hosts to a 34-20 win as he kicked six penalties, three drop goals and converted a Giampiero De Carli try to help his six kick off their Six Nations involvement in some style.
Scotland’s record against Italy is somewhat mixed and there have been thrilling wins, last-gasp defeats and all manner of emotions throughout the last 25 years. With hours to go until the latest Six Nations championship gets underway, we take a look back at some memorable clashes between the two countries.
