A statement on the pub’s Facebook page said: “By now some of you may have heard the sad news that Porty Vault, our seaside taproom in Portobello will be closing in the near future.”

Now, just days later, the venue is on the market, with a listing on RightBiz describing it as a “huge opportunity” to acquire a prominently located licensed premises in a great trading location.

Any purchase will be on a debranded basis, with a leasehold guide price of £65,000.

The listing reads: “Portobello is often referred to as 'Edinburgh by the sea' or 'Edinburgh’s seaside'. The town is a popular residential and commuter town in its own right lying to the east of Edinburgh city centre. Over the last 10 years or so the town has grown in terms of popularity and the high street has witnessed the arrival of new shops, cafés and bistro’s that reflect some of the new residential incomers moving into the area.

Portobello is famed for its promenade and sandy beach popular with walkers all year round and tourists and locals alike in the busy summer months. The subjects has a prominent trading location towards the southern (Joppa) end of the High Street.

“A huge opportunity exists for a motivated operator to acquire a prominently located licensed premises in one of the most up and coming trading locations in the greater Edinburgh area. Portobello High Street represents a much sought after trading location.

Our clients have operated the business since 2022 and have traded the business under management as a complimentary/sister offering to their main business. Our client’s primary business is going through a period of substantial growth and this growth sadly requires the sale of the tap room operation.”
