5. Circus Lane
Probably the most photographed street in Edinburgh, the charming Circus Lane doesn't look like it's in the midst of a Capital city. Get a snap there and head over to nearby Stockbridge, which is full of independent cafes, restaurants, shops and a market, and walk it off at nearby Inverleith Park. Photo: Getty Images
6. Calton Hill
If you don't fancy the scramble up Arthur's Seat, Calton Hill provides arguably just as spectacular views of Edinburgh with less of a climb. While up there, you can view the Nelson Monument, Burns Monument, and Dugald Stewart Monument. Afterwards, pop to nearby Leith Walk which is bustling with local restaurants and shops. 7. Greyfriar's Bobby
Sitting proudly in Candlemaker Row, a bronze statue of wee Greyfriar's Bobby can be found. Known as the most loyal of Edinburgh's dogs, the story goes that he sat by his owner's grave for years in Greyfriar's Kirkyard, just behind. The Kirkyard itself is worth a visit for a number of notable people are buried there - and see if you can spot any Harry Potter names. Photo: Getty Images
8. Portobello
Just a little outside of Edinburgh is the wonderful Portobello beach and town. Enjoy the sandy beach, stroll the picturesque promenade, and dive in to one of the many independent shops or places to eat. Photo: Getty Images
